Functional Movement Screening (FMS)

The Functional Movement Screen (FMS) is a valuable assessment tool designed to uncover asymmetries that lead to functional movement deficiencies. By focusing on seven fundamental movement patterns, the FMS evaluates an individual’s mobility and stability. These patterns help to observe how well a person performs basic locomotor, manipulative, and stabilizing movements by placing them in challenging positions, highlighting any weaknesses or imbalances that may arise from inadequate mobility and motor control.

The FMS employs a scoring system that rates each of the seven movement patterns from 0 to 3 points. This leads to a cumulative score that ranges between 0 and 21 points, providing a quantifiable measure of an individual’s functional movement capabilities.

After identifying any deficiencies through the FMS assessment, a tailored program of corrective exercises is created. The primary aim of these exercises is to prevent musculoskeletal injuries by addressing and correcting imbalances and weaknesses.
